Herečka Helena Machová, studentka 3. ročníku Katedry nonverbálního divadla na HAMU, se spojila s režisérkou Minna Laund z Finska a společně vytvořily příběh smutného ptáka kiwi, který se touží naučit létat a vzlétnout konečně do oblak.
Již při příchodu do sálu je cesta naznačená papírovými vlaštovkami a na scéně je herečka, která se svíjí v různých polohách na zemi, vypadá to, že spí. Dále vidíme stůl, židle a na stole leží kiwi (ovoce). Po pravé straně visí dva kostýmy - nadýchané volánkové šaty, letecká kombinéza a dvě masky ptáků kiwi s jejich typickými dlouhými zobáky.
Inscenace se zaměřuje především na nesplnitelné touhy těchto novozélandských opeřenců a právě skrze ně nám představení nabídne pohled do světa lidí, co si přejí něco, co nikdy nebude možné. Kiwi může pro diváky představovat kohokoliv, kdo má nějaký nedosažitelný sen. Je to žena, co si přeje dítě, ale je neplodná, může to být chlapec či dívka, co si přeje hrát na klavír, ale nemá ruce nebo možná představuje slepce, co si odjakživa přeje spatřit západ slunce.
Machová interaguje s diváky, dokonce vyzívá jednoho muže z publika, aby s ní šel na jeviště, tancuje s ním a nakonec mu skočí na záda a pán s ní ochotně oběhne dvě kolečka po scéně.
Kiwi přináší smutný příběh s jistou dávkou humoru a nadsázkou. Intenzivně pracuje se světly, která doplňují možná trochu pochmurnou atmosféru. Pracuje také s videoprojekcemi, jež jsou promítány na plátno. Z kanálu YouTube pouští kiwi videa - "Jak se naučit létat?" nebo "vzlety letadel". Kiwi se smutnou maskou nahlíží na to, jak letadla míří vzhůru. S nadějí, že se naučí létat, zpívá píseň "I Believe I Can Fly", převlékne se do kombinézy letce, ze stropu se spustí houpačka, na níž se kiwi rozhoupe a v posledním okamžiku seskočí. Tma: je to asi naděje, kterou by měl mít každý, i přesto, že se jeho sny zdají být nemožné.
V závěru herečka vyzívá diváky, aby přispěli na transparentní účet veřejné sbírky, na ochranu ptáků kiwi. Veškerý výtěžek poputuje na kiwisforkiwi.org.
Actress Helena Machová, student of the third year of Department of nonverbal theater at HAMU joined up with finnish director Minna Laung and together they created a story of a sad kiwi bird who wishes to learn to fly and at last ascend to the clouds.
Starting at the auditorium entrance, the way is marked by paper swallows and on the stage is an actress writhing on the ground in various poses and who seems to be asleep. Next we see a table, chairs and on the table is a kiwi (the fruit). There are two costumes hanging to the right - a frilled fluffy dress, aviator overalls and two masks of kiwi birds with their typical long beaks.
Staging focuses mainly on unfulfillable desires of these feathered creatures of New Zealand and through them the performance offers a glimpse into the world of people who wish for something impossible. The viewer can interpret the kiwi as anybody with an unfulfillable dream. It's a woman who wishes to have a child but is infertile, it can be a boy or a girl who wishes to play the piano but doesn't have hands, or perhaps it represents a blind man who has wished to see the sunset his whole life.
Machová interacts with the audience and even invites a viewer to join her on stage, dances with him and finally she leaps onto his back and the man happily runs two laps around the stage while carrying her.
Kiwi tells a sad tale with a certain amount of humor and hyperbole. It works intensely with lights which support the somewhat grim atmosphere. It also works with video projections broadcast on a screen. The kiwi plays YouTube videos - "How to learn to fly?" or "airplanes taking off". Wearing a sad mask, the kiwi watches as the planes rise. Hoping it can learn to fly it sings "I believe I can fly" and dresses in the aviator overalls. A swing descends from the ceiling which the kiwi starts swinging on and at the last moment leaps off of. Darkness - a hope that everybody should have, however impossible their dreams seem to be.
At the end the actress asks the audience to donate to a transparent account of a charity dedicated to protecting kiwi birds. All proceeds go to kiwisforkiwi.org.
